Best and worst place to meet guys.

OK, y'all know I'm a little older then most xangans, so do give me some credit for experience!  I've simply lived longer, therefore I have a better idea of certain things.  That does not mean my suggestions are fool proof because if it's 'real love' it will be found anywhere.  If it's "real love," that is "love that is really meant to be," I really don't think it matters where you are...I think you will recognize "Mr Right," and that it will be inevitable.  Otherwise, if you'd like to increase your opportunity of meeting available and fun men, here are some suggestions.

When Hate Comes to Town

It never fails. Whenever there's a relatively peaceful community in which its members generally get along, someone from somewhere, as pictured below, has to come by and sprinkle arsenic into the multicultural stew.

Ladies, Never Ask Your Ex To 'Stay Friends'
Many of us have been there before, that bittersweet moment at the end of a relationship where you know it's over and there's basically nothing that can be done to save it. So you mentally prepare yourself to part ways for good, to return to the single life, dust yourself off and go back out on the prowl.

And then she says, "But we'll still be friends.", and some of that sudden separation anxiety goes away. You start thinking that in some way or another, you'll still be a significant part of each other's lives, only you won't really. In fact, they might be the most hollow words anyone can ever speak. What Has Society Done To Our Image?
I wore a baggy shirt with an elastic bottom, so that the airy fabric of the rest of the shirt hung over the elastic. I happen to think it's pretty, and fits me well. But a guy friend of mine today told me I shouldn't wear clothes like this because they make me look like I am getting pregnant, and wearing maternity clothes...

I was disturbed. He told me that women who were thin like me should wear tight clothes. More Here...

Pole Dancing in the Olympics

There has recently been a groundswell of support to make pole dancing into an officially recognized Olympic Sport. (This is not to be confused with the Pole Dancing Olympics, which already exisits, and is totally awesome!) I guess while watching curling last week, someone from the pole dancing community finally decided enough was enough. After all, pole dancing takes at least one hundred times more skill and athleticism than curling does. Also, it would be a million times more entertaining.

The limits of the known world
This is not a post about getting old.  It's about a lot of things, and some of them may bear an uncanny resemblance to growing old, but that is not what this post is about.

I have always loved maps.  Especially ancient maps.  Ancient cartographers understood something terribly important about the limits of the known world.  They knew that dangerous monsters lurked in the waters just beyond the borders of the known world. More Here...

New & Improved Search!
We've upgraded our search engine to support real time results and remove spammy posts!

Over the last couple months, an intrepid team of Xanga engineers (led by justin, with help from dan and jon) has completely revamped the search feature ... we've been testing it for a while, and so now we're announcing a new and improved Xanga search:

What's new and improved about it?

Faster - it used to take a whole day for new posts or edits to show up in search results - now it takes just minutes
Much Less Spam- search used to be riddled with posts from spammy accounts - now you should see almost no spam
Trending (beta) - we've also added a list of topics that Xangans have been blogging about a lot lately. We're still working on this one, but we thought we'd add it to search results as a beta feature just so you could all check it out.

We've got some more search updates on the way, but in the meantime please try out the new search and let us know what you think:

Thanks!

The Types of People at the Gym

I go to a college that charges a $10 fee to use the gym. We have two Nautilus circuits and treadmills, ellipticals, and the like. After going for a year and running on the same treadmill, I’ve compiled a list of some of the various types of people you see at the gym.

Love is in the Share

Vox
Vox Talks: February 2010

Share the Love

Last week, we asked how you were going to celebrate Valentine’s Day and how and to whom you planned on saying, “I love you.” Your answers were so great, we wanted to share a few here:

“I simply open my mouth and tell them. Everyday. I show it, too, with little things like hugs and laughter and occasionally doing the dishes.” – MoonCat

“A short and simple answer: my big brother. Even when I don't feel deserving, he always thinks the best of me and my abilities. And if he doesn't think the world of me, he sure makes me feel like he does.” – GainCA

“[Valentine’s Day] is a wonderful holiday in spirit, but really we should be loving each other like that every day, not just one time a year.” – BULLETPROOFsoul

“I hope everyone out there in VoxLand is enjoying a little extra love today.” – DoctorD v3.1

“At our house, Valentine's Day is every day...”
- M&D Reinhart

Post the Love

“Say it, shout it, sing it, play it, paint it, make it, write it and post it.” That’s Channing Tatum’s challenge to you.

Visit Post the Love and take his challenge to show someone you love them, scream it to the masses, and pass it on.

Thanks for reading and thanks for sharing,

daisy, Team Vox

I kinda wish my life was like The Sims.
There would be tons of interesting things about it.
- I can be treated like family in your home. In other words, I can watch television at your house, play darts, and eat your food without really having to talk to you, and it's totally cool. It's still considered bonding time.
- I don't have to attend years of college to get a degree. Once I'm an adult, I'm ready to pursue my career. I automatically know what my dream is the moment I approach adulthood, despite never really giving it thought.
- Delivered groceries. I don't have to go grocery shopping, thank you!
- I can call you twenty times in two days on the phone and we're suddenly best friends for life.

To Know Thyself
My Interpersonal Communications teacher gave us an assignment in the middle of class.  In three minutes, we were to write down ten sentences starting with “I am…”  These sentences had to be descriptive characteristics of ourselves.  They could be positive, negative, or neutral.  We could write whatever we wanted.  She said go and I started writing on the page…

“I am smart.”
“I am a listener.”
“I am creative.”
“I am honest.”

Then I drew a blank.  I tried to think hard of words to describe me and I seriously couldn’t think of any.  Two minutes left to make a list of ten simple sentences about ourselves.

I thought maybe changing the first sentences would give me some ideas. More Here...

Is it Easier to Have the Same Profession?
When it comes to work, there are 2 categories of people:

A.  People whose work is just something they do, something that starts at 9 and ends at 5.

B. People whose work is who they are.  It's what they eat, breathe, and live and speaks worlds of their character and values.  More Here...
